Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged people to remain vigilant against those who say the government “should not be given time” to work, arguing that such calls are driven by their own interests.
Speaking at a rally at Moulvibazar Government High School ground on Wednesday afternoon, he said the public had given the BNP a mandate to govern for five years and implement its election promises.
“Then we must ask: those who speak against the people's verdict, what are they doing? The people have given the BNP five years. So when some people say the BNP should not be given time, what should be done about them? People must stay alert against them,” Tarique said.
The prime minister suggested that those making such demands were acting in pursuit of their own interests.
Referring to past political events, he said: “Many senior citizens are present here. Do you remember what they did in 1971? Do you remember what they did in 1986? And during the movement that continued for more than a decade in between, we did not see them anywhere.”
