Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has termed the proposed budget for 2026-27 “creative and friendly for production, investment, and business friendly”, saying he hoped the country's economy will "turn around soon".

Reacting to the proposed budget at his chamber in parliament on Thursday night, Fakhrul said: “This budget has been formulated after considering the welfare of all classes of people. It is a creative budget."

"This budget is basically production-friendly, investment-friendly, and business-friendly. We’ve never seen a budget like this before. The concessions and rebates that have been given have never been seen before.”

Fakhrul, also the secretary general of the ruling BNP, cited allocations to various sectors including education and health, claimed that the economy would be revived very quickly.

He alleged the Bangladesh’s economy suffered immensely during the Awami League regime and the interim government also “failed to restore it on the right track”.

“As a result, the BNP formed the government amidst a fragile economy, chaotic administration, and extreme economic distress,” Fakhrul said.

The budget, the BNP leader said, reflects how “sincere the government is in rehabilitating the country's economy and regain momentum."

Regarding measures to curb inflation in the budget, Mirza Fakhrul said, "If production increases, inflation will naturally drop."
