invoking a java class from java script

hai all,
Is it possible to invoke a java class from a java script function.
ie when i click a button on the HTML page, it will call a javascipt function. with in this function is it possible to invoke a java class.

The HTML page can either call javascript (not java) or go back to the server to call a servlet/JSP. It cannot execute java on the HTML page.
