How to call an executable (.exe) from java

Can anybody tell me , how to make a call to an executable (.exe) file from within java program.

Runtime.getRuntime().exec("notepad.exe");

It looks like Cindy may not have read that article

Works fine for me, even after reading the article .
Try it:
import java.io.*; public class Add { public static void main(String args []) { try { // String command = "cmd /k start time"; Runtime.getRuntime().exec("notepad.exe"); } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println(e); } } }
Of course is spawns a new process that is independant and has no interaction back with the calling java code, but then - that was not actually the question.
