compilers and Editor for java

I am using Textpad compiler for java. Is there any other good compiler for Java(For JDK 1.1.7 and Jdk1.3)?

You do realize that TextPad is not actually a compiler, right?
It uses whatever javac.exe is in your path. So if you've already got the latest JDK, it'll probably be using that.

Like Bigglesworth said, Textpad is using whatever JDK is in your classpath. textpad is just an editor, and it's using the JDK you specified during installation, or the one it finds in your classpath settings.

Or the Realj www.realj.com, pretty god ..
you can download the java api in winhelp format and use it in the compiler.

My prefs:
Emacs for an IDE
-use for Windows or UNIX environments
-Integrate with version control systems (CVS, ClearCase, etc)
-Integrated shell
-Integrated debugging
-more commands than you will ever need
Jikes (IBM) compiler
-faster than javac
Also a decent IDE - try JBuilder from Borland.
TextPad is a nice editor - I used to use it myself until I got into Emacs.

aaahhhh!!! ANOTHER unix/linux bandwagoneer !?!
is Emacs REALLY better than JCreator? or EditPad Classic (for those that just want a very good plain editor)? Or, is this an "I don't like Windows" issue?

Emacs also runs on Windows

I use Kawa. You can get a student license for about $35. It doesn't have a GUI component builder, but it's fine for servlets, and the like.
