I am new to both Java and MacBook... When I try to run a java program from my command prompt I get this error message:
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
Can anyone please tell me how to trouble shoot it?

Welcome to Javaranch

It seems java installation is corrupted. do you have *rt.jar*(bootstrap) in your classpath?

<edit>post the entire stacktrace/error message</edit>
