Java 1.6 very slow compared to 1.5- Reason

We have versions of jdk 1.5 and 1.6 on our unix box.
when I try this command for comparing 1.5 to 1.6, 1.6 is very slow can you please suggest what may be the reason?

Which bit is slow, the execution of the display of thev ersion nmuber?

It is very slow even when I try to compile a empty java file.
