Does anyone know if the ScriptEngine feature, used in an applet, can interact with the DOM of the web page that hosts that applet, in the same way that "regular" javascript can do? If so, does one have to do anything special to configure this, or should it "just happen"?

Cheers,
Simon

Do you mean if Java applet can talk with Javascript?
If so, have a look at LiveConnect.
