head first Java Book

i got an brain friendly guide head first java book... on page xxviii it says that i have to install API and Java 2 standard edtition and i have done that. In step 4 it says something about a path. i dont get it can i get some help.

I am 11 years old got a pretty good english my cousin is programming a game with eclipse and he was the one that inspired me to start with java i have always liked computers and wanted to know how they work..

First off Welcome! Are you using a windows system? I did a simple google search and found this Setting JAVA_HOME. I hope it helps.

the page helped little i found the path that the book is talking about but what should i type the code in ? and compile it how ?

We have a link of our own, and it is bound to be better. (‍) Here. Note there are several ways to set the PATH, and the Oracle installation instructions (I think §4) shows something slightly different. You are probably better off putting the JDK installation path at the beginning of the PATH than the end. And make sure to install the JDK not the JRE. And SE (=standard edition) not EE or ME.

Afraid it won’t. It says to use the jre folder and you need the jdk folder.

You can learn Java at any age, but it would appear only in Sweden.

No, it’s not available in Sweden, only Norway.

HFJ is designed to be easy to read. Let’s take it really slowly.
Have you got your Java runtime working? and the compiler? What happens when you give the following instructions at the command line?
java -version
javac -version
You should get an output like this

[campbell@localhost java]$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_13"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_13-b20)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.7-b01, mixed mode)
[campbell@localhost java]$ javac -version
