How to create a simple path and file in java?

I can't even seem to be able to create a simple path and file in java using the Path,Paths,Files class! I am totally new but can't seem to get the code right despite reading a book and the docs.

import java.nio.file.*; class Path { public static void main(String[] args) { Path path1 = Paths.get("/temp/path1");        Files.createFile(path1); } }

What does this bit of code mean? (Please explain step by step that is every method)
Path p4 = FileSystems.getDefault().getPath("/users/sally");

Any help would be really really appreciated!
