I'm thrilled to share that I've officially submitted my proposal for GSoC 2026 with IfcOpenShell. Over the past few weeks, I've been diving deep into the codebase, and I'm absolutely fascinated by the technical depth and the elegant way IfcOpenShell handles complex BIM data structures.

As a demonstration of my commitment and to get a head start on some of the core improvements I'm passionate about, I've just opened a comprehensive Pull Request: #7873

🚀 Technical Highlights of the PR:

1. Circular Dependency Resolution (Issue Circular import error in ifcopenshell.util.shape_builder prevents importing recipes that use ShapeBuilder (v0.8.4.post1) #7562): I've broken a long-standing import cycle by introducing a new, standalone vectors.py base module. This structural refactoring simplifies the dependency graph and improves overall system modularity.
2. Recursive Spatial Hierarchy Traversal (Issue Changing an element's spatial container causes an error #7801): I've implemented a robust spatial recovery mechanism in the Bonsai Collector. It now intelligently traverses the spatial tree to ensure stable parent linkage, even when dealing with "virtual" or incomplete IFC containers.
3. CLI Standardization & Batch Logic (Issue [IfcPatch]Create proper CLI entrypoint / script #6436, When searching via the Ifc class search, that is looked up PredefinedTypes as well. #6822): Formalized the ifcpatch CLI with a proper entrypoint and added support for glob patterns, enabling efficient batch processing of large datasets.
4. SQL Serialization Hardening (Issue developer(s) wanted #7542): Added recursive safety guards to the Ifc2Sql recipe to ensure reliability during high-performance database exports.
