Measles claims 8 more lives in 24hr

Eight more children died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, including six deaths reported in Dhaka, according to the latest report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

During the same period, 1,039 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms were recorded nationwide.

DGHS data showed that since March 15, a total of 639 children have died from measles across Bangladesh. Of them, 92 deaths were confirmed as measles through laboratory testing, while 547 children died after exhibiting measles symptoms.


The report also stated that 9,927 measles cases have been laboratory-confirmed so far, while 82,029 patients with measles symptoms have sought treatment at hospitals nationwide.

Dhaka division remains the worst-affected region, accounting for the highest number of infections and deaths. A total of 285 deaths and 45,110 infections have been reported in the division since the outbreak began.
