Jamaat-e-Islami, the opposition party in the Parliament of Bangladesh, on Friday, June 12, 2026, said that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government’s proposed budget is “overly debt-dependent, unimplementable and wide open to looting”.

The party criticized the government’s proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year describing it as ‘excessively loan-dependent’, ‘overly ambitious’, ‘unrealistic’, and ‘vulnerable to corruption and misappropriation’.

The party came up with its formal reaction to the budget at a press conference held at its central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Jamaat Secretary General and former lawmaker Mia Golam Parwar said the proposed Tk 938,000 crore budget relies heavily on domestic and foreign borrowing and lacks a clear roadmap for achieving its revenue targets.

He questioned how the government plans to collect the projected revenue and finance the budget deficit of more than Tk 236,000 crore. Parwar also said the budget does not adequately address key requirements such as a transparent tax structure, corruption-free administration, and effective governance mechanisms.
