The Bangladesh Premier League doesn’t have a lot of green light, but the Mohammad Mithun-led Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh have a chance to improve that, stated the president of the World Cricketers’ Association, Lisa Sthalekar on Sunday.
‘So what the World Cricketers’ Association does, and we have it on our website, is almost a traffic light system of all of the T20 leagues around there,’ Sthalekar, who was commentating on the Bangladesh-Australia series, said during a media interaction at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
‘It’s to help players, administrators, and agents to understand what have been the issues or what have been the successful things from each T20 league. Obviously, if you look at BPL, their traffic light doesn’t have a lot of green, unfortunately,’ she said.
‘And I think speaking to Mithun, I said this is an opportunity for them as a new organization, a new executive, to be able to work with the Bangladesh Cricket Board to ensure that overseas players want to come here and play, and that potentially they can get into that amber, green lights,’ she added.
Regarding the issue of players not getting full payment in Bangladesh’s franchise-based league, Sthalekar said that it should fall upon CWAB’s responsibility.
‘That’s up to the players’ association here on the ground to work with that. Our dealings are with the ICC; it’s not necessarily with the Bangladesh Cricket Board or Cricket Australia. That’s for that individual players’ association in that country.
‘However, Mithun will be coming to London; we have a board meeting, and it’ll be exciting for him to be part of it, and no doubt he’ll learn a lot more about players’ associations and what programs we run across the world,’ she added.
