Dheki Projozona organised a One Minute Environmental Cinema Festival on Monday at the Chitrashala Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to promote environmental content.

The festival screened 17 short films depicting the environmental crisis, which were selected from an open call under the theme, ‘Environment in the Eyes of Youth’.

Moderated by Sadia Roshni Suchana and chaired by former Jatiotabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha president Rezadulla Chowdhury, the inauguration ceremony comprised a discussion, a musical performance, and an award ceremony.

Md Nizam Uddin, director of Dheki Projozona, delivered the welcome speech at the ceremony. The subsequent discussion featured Daffodil International University teacher-trainer Amir Hamza, Green Film Ambassador for the International Academy of Film and Media Aktanin Khair Tanin, and competition jury member Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, among others.

Md Nizam Uddin said that the jury selected 17 films and presented awards in different categories from a total of 30 submissions.

Amir Hamza said that children are now raised by social media, and there is a need to fight the algorithm by promoting environmental content.

Aktanin Khair Tanin said that the filmmaking process needs to practice green filmmaking through carbon-reduction planning, rather than focusing only on environmental content.

Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed said that all the films depict the sorrow of nature in just one minute, which is also a lesson for filmmakers who want to be storytellers.

The selected films screened at the festival were A Part of Bangladesh, Ant Life, Bodh, Bondhu, Bumarang, Cholen Gach Lagai, Ek Bikeler Golpo, Eka, Kagojer Plane, Khoji Short Film - Shomen, Modhur Karigar, Rooftop Garden, Nature Bleeds, Nidhon, One Vision - Save the World, Recycling and Satar.
