The Santal Musicians Association of Bangladesh organised a musical event titled the ‘National Santali Music Festival 2026’ at Sangskriti Bikash Kendra in the capital on Friday.
The event was inaugurated by singer Kazi Krishnokoli Islam, while Gram Bikash Kendra adviser Moazzem Hossain, among others, attended the opening ceremony as special guest.
Kazi Krishnokoli Islam stated that the issue of national minorities became increasingly significant in the country due to the dominance of Bengali majority, noting that socio-religious events of the national minorities were often interfered with by the majority community.
‘National minorities have played a vital role in the country’s democratic and national movements, including the anti-British movement, with the Santals being prominent among them,’ she said, adding that Santals were also at the forefront of the struggle to preserve nature in the Indian subcontinent.
Santali musical troupes, including Sengel, Even, and Arang, performed at the event alongside solo singers.
