The July Shaheed Smrity Foundation held a folk song event to remember the martyrs of the student-led uprising of July-August in 2024 at the Shaheed Mir Mugdho Mancha of Uttara in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Folk artiste Abdul Kuddus Boyati performed songs based on the uprising.
His palas highlighted the pain of the martyrs’ families and the plight of the injured in the uprising, who demanded a country free from discrimination.
Moderated by chief executive officer of the foundation, retired lieutenant colonel Kamal Akbar, the event also featured screening of a documentary on the families of the uprising’s victims.
Dhaka 18 lawmaker SM Jahangir Hossain and International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Tarek Abdullah were present as guests at the event, which was attended by July activists and foundation members.
The July Shaheed Smrity Foundation staff members mentioned at the event that although they had not been receiving wages for the past two months due to fund crisis, they had been fulfilling their duties.
