A Cumilla Court yesterday sent expelled Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Jisan Mia Pradhan to jail in a case filed over the alleged rape of a woman and forced abortion.

Senior Judicial Magistrate of Cognisance Court-3 Tayeb Uddin passed the order after police produced him before the court, said Sub-inspector Imam Uddin, the case’s investigation officer.

Earlier, around 5:39pm, Jisan was taken to the court from Cumilla Medical College Hospital. On June 13, police arrested four people, including Jisan, in the case.

On June 12, Jisan’s family filed a general diary with Daudkandi Model Police Station, claiming that he had been missing since 8:30pm June 11.

Police, however, said Jisan was not abducted but had gone into hiding.

A police investigation found that Jisan went into hiding after a woman he knew brought allegations of rape and forced abortion against him.
