Tarique Rahman lands in Cox’s Bazar

PM to inaugurate canal re-excavation, launch tree plantation drive and attend public events

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reached Cox’s Bazar this morning on a daylong tour to attend a series of programmes, including the inauguration of a canal re-excavation project and the launch of a nationwide tree plantation campaign.

An aircraft carrying the prime minister and his spouse, Dr Zubaida Rahman, landed at Cox’s Bazar International Airport at around 9:53am, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman said.

The flight departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 9:00am, he added.

The prime minister is scheduled to return to Dhaka by air tonight after completing his official engagements.

At the airport, Tarique Rahman was received by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and Land Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, and Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner MA Mannan.

From the airport, the prime minister headed directly to Pmkhali Union, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the re-excavation of the Patli Canal and address a rally.

According to his tour schedule, Tarique Rahman will also visit Dulahazara Safari Park and formally launch a nationwide tree plantation programme at Malumghat Reserve Forest. The initiative is part of the government’s plan to plant 25 crore trees across the country over the next five years.

He is also scheduled to visit Pekua to offer ziarat at the grave of July mass uprising martyr Md Wasim and meet members of his family.

During the visit, the prime minister will lay the foundation stones of the newly established Pekua Municipality and Matamuhuri Upazila.

In the afternoon, he will address a public rally organised by Cox’s Bazar district BNP at the Chakaria Upazila Bus Terminal.
