Snap has unveiled a new pair of standalone augmented reality (AR) glasses priced at $2,195 at the Augmented World Expo 2026 on June 16.

The product, called SPECS, is scheduled to begin shipping this autumn in the United States, the United Kingdom and France. Customers can pre-order the device with a refundable $200 deposit.

The glasses are designed to operate without a tethered smartphone, external battery pack or computing unit. Snap said the device is available in two sizes and weighs between 132 and 136 grams, placing it among the lighter AR headsets currently available.

According to Snap, the device features a display system based on liquid crystal on silicon technology, providing a 51-degree field of view and support for up to 16 million colours.

The company said that the glasses also include electrochromic lenses that can transition between clear and tinted modes. Snap has positioned the device as a platform for AR applications, including navigation, productivity tools, education software and artificial intelligence-powered assistance.

The company said developers have already created hundreds of applications, known as Lenses, for the platform.

The glasses are powered by two Snapdragon processors, with one dedicated to computer vision tasks and the other handling applications. Snap said the hardware enables low-latency interactions and real-time hand tracking, features considered important for immersive augmented reality experiences.

Battery life is rated at up to four hours of mixed use, while an accompanying charging case provides additional power that extends total usage to around 20 hours, according to the company.

Snap said it has invested in AR technologies for more than a decade and has filed more than 7,000 patents related to the development of the new device. The company also said SPECS include privacy controls that require user permission before accessing sensitive information and feature an indicator light that signals when recording is taking place.
