Java for Dummies: How about Java for not so dummies?

Hi @Barry Burd - I learned Java some 15years back in college, never worked on it hands-on after that as I moved on to different technologies.
Now as per my job demand, I'm interested in starting to learn Java, but there's tonnes of info/courses out there....so i'm in dilemma of where to start.
I'm new to Java ranch forums and even this is so overwhelming with lots of threads for java experts but doesn't seem to help a beginner like me much...
I certainly don't want to go page by page or very basic stuff meant for java beginners..as it seems boringly slow process and i'm losing focus/interest.
Where should I start ? Is Java for Dummies book right for me ? Is there a good online course that quickly brushes on the topics and gets me into deep java ?
sorry...so many questions...

anyone out there... please help with any relevant training materials info links etc.,
or instructions how best I can make use of this forum....i'm new here....

Gowri, You're the best judge of the level of book that's right for you. If you have experience writing code in other languages, my Java For Dummies book might not be for you. On the other hand, if you've never worked with object-oriented programming concepts, you might find the second half of the book to be very informative. Only you can say. Maybe there's a way you can preview a few parts of the book to get the feeling for it before you decide to immerse yourself in one book or another.
As for other resources, there are so many online that it's difficult to know where to start. If you poke around, you can find hundreds of them -- many of them very good.

I'm used to Modular programming. But yes - Object Oriented programming concepts and thought process is somewhat new to me.

What they call "modular programming" isn't the same as object-oriented programming. You might get something out of my book's discussion of OOP.
