I brought this up on python-dev at https://mail.python.org/archives/list/python-dev@python.org/thread/ZPBSHENP… , and the feedback seemed supportive. As such, I am bringing a draft of what I'm thinking will go into PEP 11 with a bunch of `XXX` placeholders for people to help me fill in to see how this will look overall. For any platform(s) you support, please reply with any relevant details that should be added to the relevant tables below. Invitation to discuss TypeVar syntax

Hi everyone, the typing community is considering a proposal to add new syntax to support generic types. This is likely to be a big change, so we'd love for any interested core developers to join the discussion early on so we can get alignment faster. We'll have a video call next Wednesday to discuss the proposal; any core devs (or other interested readers) are welcome to join. (Even if your opinion is "we shouldn't ever do this"—that would be important feedback.) The proposal is still in its early stages, but it would look something like: class list[T]: def append(self, obj: T, /) -> None: ... def __getitem__(self, i: int, /) -> T: ... [RELEASE] The second Python 3.11 beta (3.11.0b2) is available

Does anyone want bug fixes? Because we have 164 new commits fixing different things, from code to documentation. If you have reported some issue after 3.11.0b1, you should check if is fixed and if not, make sure you tell us so we can take a look. Beta release previews are intended to give the wider community the opportunity to test new features and bug fixes and to prepare their projects to support the new feature release. We **strongly encourage** maintainers of third-party Python projects to **test with 3.11** during the beta phase and report issues found to [the Python bug tracker](https://github.com/python/cpython/issues) as soon as possible. No current physical theory can describe timescales shorter than the Planck time, such as the earliest events after the Big Bang, and it is conjectured that the structure of time breaks down on intervals comparable to the Planck time. [RELEASE] Python 3.9.13 is now available

This is the thirteenth maintenance release of Python 3.9. Get it here: Python 3.9.13 <https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-3913/> According to the release calendar specified in PEP 596 <https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0596/>, Python 3.9.13 is the final regular maintenance release. Starting now, the 3.9 branch will only accept security fixes and releases of those will be made in source-only form until October 2025. This is a milestone moment for me as it means that now both of my release series are security-only. My work as release manager enters its final stage. I’m not crying, you’re crying! 🥲 Compared to the 3.8 series, this last regular bugfix release is still pretty active at 166 commits since 3.9.12. In comparison, version 3.8.10, the final regular bugfix release of Python 3.8, included only 92 commits. However, it’s likely that it was 3.8 that was special here with the governance changes occupying core developers’ minds. For reference, version 3.7.8, the final regular bugfix release of Python 3.7, included 187 commits. In any case, 166 commits is quite a few changes, some of which being pretty important fixes. First proposed by Gerard 't Hooft, it was given a precise string-theory interpretation by Leonard Susskind, who combined his ideas with previous ones of 't Hooft and Charles Thorn.[ Leonard Susskind said, “The three-dimensional world of ordinary experience––the universe filled with galaxies, stars, planets, houses, boulders, and people––is a hologram, an image of reality cited on a distant two-dimensional (2D) surface." As pointed out by Raphael Bousso, Thorn observed in 1978 that string theory admits a lower-dimensional description in which gravity emerges from it in what would now be called a holographic way. The holographic principle was inspired by black hole thermodynamics, which conjectures that the maximal entropy in any region scales with the radius squared, and not cubed as might be expected. In the case of a black hole, the insight was that the informational content of all the objects that have fallen into the hole might be entirely contained in surface fluctuations of the event horizon. The holographic principle resolves the black hole information paradox within the framework of string theory. However, there exist classical solutions to the Einstein equations that allow values of the entropy larger than those allowed by an area law, hence in principle larger than those of a black hole. These are the so-called "Wheeler's bags of gold". The existence of such solutions conflicts with the holographic interpretation, and their effects in a quantum theory of gravity including the holographic principle are not fully understood yet. # We hope you enjoy the new releases! Release of Python 3.11 beta 1 is currently blocked

Hi everyone, Today we need to start the release of Python 3.11 beta 1. Currently, we have the following blockers: * https://github.com/python/cpython/issues/91162 (was deferred blocker - but all deferred blockers are bumped to release blockers on beta1). * https://github.com/python/cpython/issues/91350 * We have 3 buildbots failing: https://buildbot.python.org/all/#/release_status (some of the failures are due to flaky tests but others look real). Please, if you are involved in the above issues check if they are resolved or if they are not released blockers (notice any semantic change, API change, public data structure change or grammar change must be done before beta 1 is released). I will look at the buildbots later today but if you have some time to investigate, that would help a lot! *I am blocking the main branch so only the release team can merge changes* until these problems are addressed and we can continue with the release. Please, add me as a reviewer to any PR that needs to be merged to address these issues or any other change that *absolutely needs to go into beta 1*. Thanks for your help!
