KALIGANJ, GAZIPUR, June 17: A former school student from Kaliganj Upazila has been bedridden for the past nine years following a sudden illness, and now urgently needs Tk 2 lakh for surgery after a tumour was found in her right hand.

Sanjida Akter Munni, daughter of auto-rickshaw driver Montaz Uddin of Norun Village under Jangalia Union, was a Class IX student at Norun High School when she fell ill in 2017 while returning home from school. What began as a fever gradually worsened, eventually leading to severe neurological complications.

Family members said her condition deteriorated over time, causing blurred vision and later paralysis in both legs. Since then, she has remained confined to bed, unable to move or carry out daily activities.

Recently, doctors detected a tumour in her right hand and advised immediate surgical removal. However, the estimated cost of Tk 2 lakh has left the family in distress.

Her childhood friend Asif said Munni’s life had changed overnight. “She was very bright and used to study with us. If she had not fallen ill, she would have been in college or university now,” he said, calling for financial help from the public.

Neighbours also expressed sympathy, saying they have seen Munni bedridden since childhood and are deeply saddened by her condition. Munni’s mother, Shahnaz Parvin, said the family has exhausted all savings. “We cannot afford the operation. Her condition is getting worse,” she said.

The family has appealed to philanthropists and well-wishers for assistance to save Munni’s life.
