CHATTOGRAM, June 17, 2026 (BSS) - The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign-2026 will be held in Chattogram Division on June 28 with a target of administering Vitamin A capsules to 54.78 lakh children aged 6 to 59 months.
The information was disclosed at a divisional orientation and planning meeting held at the Divisional Director (Health) office near Cinema Palace in the city today.
Presiding over the meeting, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that children aged 6 to 11 months will receive one blue capsule containing 1 lakh IU of Vitamin A, while children aged 12 to 59 months will be given one red capsule containing 2 lakh IU.
He stressed the need for maximum vigilance to ensure that no eligible child is left out of the campaign. He said Vitamin A plays a vital role in preventing malnutrition and childhood blindness, supporting normal growth, and reducing the risk of death from measles and diarrhoeal diseases.
Dr Mahmuda Akhter presented the keynote paper at the meeting. Brig Gen Taslim Uddin, Abu Saleh Md Forkan Uddin, and representatives from various government and international organisations also attended as resource persons.
According to the Health Department, Vitamin A capsules will be administered from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on June 28 at both permanent and temporary immunisation centres across 11 districts and two city corporations under the division.
As part of preparations, an extensive awareness campaign will be carried out through mosques, temples, educational institutions, markets, bus terminals, and river ports to ensure full coverage of the target group.
The campaign aims to cover 6,70,768 children aged 6-11 months and 48,07,761 children aged 12-59 months in Chattogram Division.
