PATUAKHALI, June 16: As part of the government's 25 crore tree planting programme in next five years, a tree plantation under the Miyawaki forestation programme was organised by the Patuakhali Municipality in front of the Circuit House on Tuesday.

It was attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury, Municipal Administrator and Deputy Director of Local Government (LG) Jewel Rana, Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Tarek Hawlader, Additional DC (General) Masud ul Alam, Additional DC (Revenue) Mohsin Uddin, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rawjatun Jannat, Patuakhali Municipality Chief Executive Officer Abdul Qayyum, Municipality Secretary Masum Billah, Social Development Officer Bhabani Shankar Singh, and officials at various levels. At that time, saplings of various indigenous species were planted using the Miyawaki method.

DC Dr Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury said, “There is no alternative to planting trees to maintain environmental balance and build a livable Bangladesh for the next generation. The government's 25 crore tree planting programme is not just a programme, it is a national movement to protect the environment.”

Municipal Administrator and DDLG Jewel Rana said, “The Miyawaki method can quickly create dense forests in a small area, which will play an effective role in reducing air pollution, preserving biodiversity and controlling temperature in urban areas.”
The concerned said that creating dense forests using the Miyawaki method creates an environment like a natural forest in a short time and the growth of trees is relatively fast. The participants in the programme hoped to build a green, sustainable and climate-resilient Bangladesh through the successful implementation of the government's tree plantation programme.
