KDA chairman Mona vows planned development prioritising public welfare

KHULNA, June 17, 2026 (BSS) – Newly appointed chairman of the Khulna Development Authority Advocate S.M. Shafiqu lAlam Mona has pledged to build a planned, modern and livable Khulna city by ensuring accountability, integrity and public-oriented services.

He made the remarks at a reception and farewell programme held at the KDA auditorium on Tuesday following his formal assumption of office as chairman of the development authority.

The programme, organized by the KDA Officers and Employees Welfare Council, was chaired by Ejajur Rahman. Outgoing Chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Jahangir Hossain was accorded a farewell while Mona was welcomed by officials and employees of the authority.

Addressing the gathering, Mona said no institution can survive without accountability and that the absence of accountability gradually leads to institutional decline.

He urged KDA officials and employees to work with honesty and dedication for public welfare, adding that no activities contrary to these principles would be tolerated during his tenure.

The new chairman called upon all stakeholders to work collectively to transform Khulna into a modern, planned and habitable city.

Among others, Administrator of Khulna City Corporation Nazrul Islam Manju, Khulna District BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Montu, Khulna Metropolitan BNP General Secretary and Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Shafiqul AlamTuhin, District Council Administrator Monirul Islam Bappi, former lawmaker Syed Nargis Ali, government officials and public representatives were present.

Mona highly praised outgoing chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, describing him as a sincere and capable administrator who played a significant role in KDA’s development activities and public service delivery despite various limitations.

He said the contribution of the outgoing chairman would be remembered with respect by the people of Khulna and the development authority for years to come.

At the programme, KDA officials and employees greeted the new chairman with flowers and highlighted the achievements of the outgoing chairman during his tenure. Local BNP leaders from different police station and ward units of the city were also present.
