Driven by a commitment to foster reading habits among the younger generation and build an enlightened society, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has established a library in Charkhirati village of Kapasia upazila in Gazipur.
The library, founded to encourage knowledge-sharing among people in the remote area, has emerged as a hub for social and cultural activities in the locality.
Every day, readers from different walks of life visit the library from morning until 9:00 pm. Students, teachers, physicians, businesspeople and service holders spend their leisure time reading books on literature, history, general knowledge and moral values.
Local residents said many people who once spent their free time in casual gatherings now devote a significant part of their leisure hours to reading. They also noted that the library has inspired a growing interest in books among young people.
To inspect the library's activities, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman visited the facility on Friday along with Dr Saidur Rahman, president of the organisation's Monohardi upazila unit and adviser to the Kapasia library.
During the visit, they presented two sets of Islamic books and a copy of the Holy Quran with Bangla translation to enrich the library's collection.
Library General Secretary Md Sakhawat Hossain and member Sohel Mia received the books and the Quran on behalf of the library.
Dr Emdadul Haque Sohel, adviser to the Monohardi upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, and Hamed Mia also attended the programme.
After the visit, the guests emphasised the importance of books in advancing society. They said books broaden people's outlook, strengthen morality and nurture human values. They expressed hope that similar libraries in remote areas would help build a more creative and knowledge-based generation.
Welcoming the initiative, local residents said the library serves not only as a place for reading but also as a centre for community interaction and new ideas. They expressed optimism that the library would continue spreading the light of knowledge among more people in the future.
