Popular Nazrul Sangeet artiste Ferdous Ara is set to release a new modern song album after almost 31 years, rekindling a musical journey she had largely set aside decades ago.
Reflecting on her early career, Ferdous Ara said that she had auditioned for Bangladesh Television (BTV) in 1972 and was enlisted in both the Nazrul and Modern song categories. However, her father did not encourage her to pursue modern songs professionally, prompting her to devote herself primarily to Nazrul Sangeet.
“Even so, I have sung modern songs at different times on request-for films, television dramas and various BTV programmes,” she said.
Her last modern song album, titled “Moner Pakhi Kotha Koy”, was released in 1995 by Indian music label HMV. Since then, she had not worked on another modern album.
According to the artiste, the inspiration for her latest project came unexpectedly while recording a modern song titled “Aha Ki Sundar Ghuri” about a month ago.
“I suddenly felt that I could create a new album of modern songs. From that thought, I started working on the project,” she said.
The tentative title of the upcoming album is “Prem", although Ferdous Ara noted that the name may change before its release. The album is expected to feature 10 songs, with five already completed and work underway to finish the remaining tracks.
She added that the lyrics and compositions are being crafted with the tastes and preferences of younger listeners in mind. In addition to the audio release, separate music videos are also planned for each song.
The videos are expected to be released gradually, while the complete album will be made available on digital audio platforms.
