As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform the global media landscape, Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has called for enhanced international cooperation to ensure the responsible use of AI and combat misinformation and disinformation.

The minister made the remarks while inaugurating the 5th China Media Group (CMG) Forum in Chongqing, China, where policymakers, media leaders, and technology experts gathered to discuss the growing role of AI in journalism and media operations.

The event was attended by a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, China’s Vice Minister of Information, and representatives from media organizations across the world.

This year’s forum is being held under the theme “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Media.” Chongqing, widely recognized as one of China’s leading AI and technology hubs, serves as the venue for the international gathering.

In his opening address, Minister Swapan emphasized the need to strengthen information exchange, content sharing, and technological collaboration among countries in the digital era.

“International cooperation is essential to effectively tackle fake news, misinformation, and misleading propaganda,” he said, adding that responsible journalism and ethical information management have become increasingly important in promoting development, peace, and public welfare.

The minister also highlighted the importance of expanding training programs, professional skill development, and joint initiatives between media organizations in Bangladesh and China to enhance technological capabilities and journalistic standards.

Nearly 300 representatives from various countries, international organizations, and media institutions are participating in the conference. The event also features exhibitions showcasing AI-driven innovations and emerging technologies designed for the media industry.

Organizers expressed hope that the forum would open new avenues for global media cooperation, technology-based information management, and cultural exchange.

According to his official schedule, the Information Minister is expected to return to Bangladesh late Wednesday night after concluding his participation in the conference.
