Cyberattack Disrupts Online Services of Four Major Iranian Banks
Four major commercial banks in Iran have been targeted by a limited cyberattack, temporarily disrupting some online banking services. However, no customer data was stolen or compromised, according to the country’s state media.
Citing the Iranian Banking Coordination Council, state-run media reported that the cyberattack was launched on Sunday, June 14, targeting a shared communications infrastructure and internal network used by the affected banks.
The banks impacted by the incident include Bank Melli, Bank Tejarat, Bank Saderat, and the Export Development Bank of Iran.
According to the Coordination Council, the banks’ technical teams immediately implemented protective measures after detecting the attack. As a result of the incident and the subsequent security response, certain banking services experienced temporary disruptions.
Authorities confirmed that the attackers were unable to gain unauthorized access to customers’ personal or financial information. No data was deleted, altered, or compromised during the attack.
The Council further stated that technical teams are continuing their efforts to repair the affected infrastructure and fully restore normal banking operations as quickly as possible.
