Daraz Reaffirms Commitment to Bangladesh Market
Daraz Bangladesh says its operations remain normal and there are no plans to leave the country, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable growth and the development of Bangladesh’s digital economy.
Daraz Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations in the country, stating that its business activities remain normal and there are no plans to exit the Bangladesh market.
The clarification comes in response to recent media reports regarding the company’s investment and operational activities on 17 June, Wednesday. Daraz said that some recent discussions do not accurately reflect its current strategic priorities or day-to-day operations.
According to the company, it continues to invest in technology-driven solutions aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing customer experience. Building a sustainable and long-term digital commerce ecosystem across Bangladesh remains a key part of its strategy.
Daraz reported that more than 7,000 new sellers joined its platform over the past year, reflecting continued growth of its seller ecosystem. The company said this expansion is creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small businesses while contributing to employment and income generation.
In addition to its commercial activities, Daraz highlighted its social responsibility initiatives. During the devastating floods of 2024, the company partnered with humanitarian organizations and, through contributions from the company and its employees, provided more than Tk 12 million in assistance to affected communities.
A spokesperson for Daraz Bangladesh said, “Daraz remains fully committed to its operations in Bangladesh and has no plans to leave the market. Bangladesh is an important market for us. We are working towards sustainable growth and contributing to the development of the country’s digital economy.”
The spokesperson added that the company regularly reviews its organizational structure as part of standard business practice to ensure alignment with its long-term strategic goals.
Daraz said it will continue working to strengthen seller capabilities, improve customer experience and promote digital commerce. Industry stakeholders believe that the rapid growth of internet and smartphone usage in Bangladesh is creating new opportunities for the e-commerce sector. Investments in technology, long-term planning and a strong digital ecosystem are expected to play a significant role in future growth.
